The new European Packaging Regulation (PPWR) aims to halt the growing volume of packaging waste in the EU and reverse it by 2030 through a functioning circular economy. Since 11 February 2025 it replaces the previous Packaging Directive, introducing stricter rules and ensuring uniform implementation across all member states. Within 18 months — by 12 August 2026 — the first requirements must be in place.
